Movies that feel likeThe Visitors (1993)

After a wizard's spell goes awry, 12th-century Gallic knight Godefroy de Papincourt, Count of Montmirail finds himself transported to 1993, along with his dimwitted servant, Jacquouille la Fripouille. Startled and perplexed by modern technology, the duo run amok, destroying cars and causing chaos until they meet Beatrice de Montmirail, an aristocratic descendant of the nobleman, who may be able to help them get back to 1123.

If you loved The Visitors, the closest films we have are Nothing Left to Do But Cry (1984), The Brand New Testament (2015) and Liar Liar (1997). All three share The Visitors' dreamlike and witty feel, which is what we rank on before quality.

Both lean on play more than on fantasy

The difference: Made in the 2010s, in a different era of the craft

An absurdist, surrealistic and shocking pitch-black comedy, which moves freely from nightmare to fantasy to hilariously deadpan humour as it muses on man’s perpetual inhumanity to man.
